The Bird Watch is a campus wide crime prevention program based on the success of the national Neighborhood Watch Program. The Bird Watch training stresses education and common sense as it teaches students, faculty, staff, and those in the surrounding community, how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity when they see it. The focus of the program relies on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime. The hour long training session will empower students and staff with the knowledge to be able to recognize and address safety and crime prevention concerns within their work units, residence halls, and other areas on and around campus. Training will include topics such as building/office security, personal safety, and dealing with suspicious behavior and people.

The Illinois State University Police Department provides a number of various crime prevention programs. The ISU Police department strives to be proactive and therefore, seeks to provide programs and training in crime prevention topics that will assist individuals to make informed decisions regarding there safety and the safety of the community. We believe that the safety and prevention of crime is a shared responsibility between the police and every member of the community. The police need every community member's assistance in keeping the campus safe, by being those extra eyes and ears. There are not enough police to be everywhere, so we encourage individuals to report crime or suspicious activity to the police. Contact the ISU Police by calling our dispatch center at 309-438-8631 (on-campus dial 8-8631).
