The dispatch center saw new 911 equipment installed in July of 2008 as Illinois State University 911 System officially joined McLean County 911 System. Illinois State University continues to operate it's own dispatch center and answer it's own 911 calls from ISU owned properties throughout Bloomington-Normal.
All 9-1-1 calls in McLean County originating from cell phones are routed to McLean County Dispatch Center called METCOM. Upon receipt of the 9-1-1 call if it is a police emergency, the ISU Police 9-1-1 Dispatch Center will receive the call and speak to the caller. If the cell phone 9-1-1 call is for medical or fire emergency, then METCOM will handle the call and dispatch appropriate responding fire and /or emergency medical units. The ISU 9-1-1 Dispatch Center will be notified of the fire and /or medical emergency so that police can respond to provide additional assistance.
