Detective Anthony "Tony" Hosey
March 26, 1968 - April 25, 2005
On April 25, 2005, Detective Anthony Hosey was killed in a single-car accident on northbound Interstate 55, four miles north of the Dwight exit in Grundy County. The accident occurred just before 10 p.m.
Detective Hosey was thrown from the car and found in the center of the northbound traffic lanes. He lost control of his unmarked squad car, which veered off the left side of the road and rolled several times along the edge of the median. Detective Hosey was heading to his home in Plainfield from after an investigation.
Detective Hosey had served with the Illinois State University Police Department for 5 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
A memorial fund for the Hosey family is established at the Illinois State University Credit Union, 1309 South Center, Normal, Illinois 61761 in the name of Anthony Hosey.

Biographical Sketch of Detective Inspector Anthony "Tony" Hosey
Anthony "Tony" Hosey was appointed to the Illinois State University Police Department on 05 July 2000 assigned to the Patrol Division. He had previously served with the Robbins, IL Police Department and was a graduate of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Academy. Soon after joining the ranks of ISUPD, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and detailed to Task Force 6 (a covert undercover narcotics suppression unit).
During his service, Detective Inspector Anthony "Tony" Hosey twice received one of the department's highest honors: the "Chief's Award of Merit --Meritorious Service Medal" (2003, 2004).

Chief's Award of Merit--Meritorious Service Medal 2003
"For his role in 'Operation Shakespeare', a covert operation of Task Force 6 resulting in four Class X arrests and the seizure of over 2,000 tablets of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, MDMA or 'Ecstasy', 121 grams of Ketamine, 931 grams of gamma-hydroxybutrate or GHB, $4,000.00 in cash and three vehicles all seized by the state. These individuals were responsible for the distribution of over 9,000 tablets of 'Ecstasy' on the Illinois State University campus. Detective Hosey was also instrumental in the seizure of another 200 tablets of 'Ecstasy' and the arrest of another individual. These date rape drugs were also destined for the Illinois State University campus."

Chief's Award of Merit--Meritorious Service Medal 2004
"For the arrest of five individuals who had sold 500 units of Ecstasy or MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) on the campus of Illinois State University. They were arrested with 200 tablets of MDMA in their possession. For the arrest of five additional people selling marijuana (Cannabis Sativa L) who had brought eight hundred pounds of Cannabis to our community having twenty pounds in their possession when arrested. $93,000.00 in cash, one truck, three cars, two motorcycles, and one lawnmower were seized."
Detective Anthony "Tony" Hosey exemplified the highest traditions of the police service. He was a gentlemen, he was a professional, and he was always willing to help out a fellow officer. Tony Hosey graduated from Illinois State University with a bacculatreate degree in Theraputic Recreation Administration in August of 1992. He will be greatly missed by all who had the chance to meet him and work along his side.
