Report a Crime

If you are in need of immediate assistance or are otherwise fearful for your wellbeing or that of someone else, call 9-1-1 now.

Guidelines for Calling 9-1-1

  • Stay on the line with the dispatcher.
  • Provide the address of the building involved and your exact location. This is especially critical if you are calling from a cell phone.
  • Describe the incident thoroughly to help ensure that proper resources are dispatched.
  • Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to do so.

Reporting a crime that occurred on-campus

In order to file a police report, you must speak with an officer. Visit our department at 718 W College Avenue (Nelson Smith Building 105) or call us at (309) 438-8631 if you need an officer to come to you.

Reporting a crime that occurred off-campus

Contact your municipality’s police department first. Contact information for Bloomington and Normal Police Departments is below, and other municipalities will generally have police contact information on their webpage.

Reporting a crime as a mandated reporter

If you or your department is the victim of this crime, do not complete this form. Call us at (309) 438-8631 to report.

ISU employees responsible for students (also known as those with Responsible Employee designation) are required to report certain events. If you’re unsure of these requirements, learn more here or call us at (309) 438-8631.

Reporting an incident as another third-party

If there is an incident we should be aware of that is (1) not emergent, (2) does not pose a direct threat to safety, and (3) that you are not the victim of, please fill out the Public Incident Form linked below. If any of these three descriptors apply, call 9-1-1 or contact ISU Police Department at (309) 438-8631.
